Crewel Embroidery Kit ~ APPLE THIEF

The Apple Thief kit is a good introduction to crewel embroidery. It is a great little project if you are familiar with the basic embroidery, are new to crewel work and would like to try a couple of more complex stitches.

Apple Thief was such an enjoyable little design for me to do. At first, I just embroidered the cheeky goat as a sampler for my much bigger ‘Mountain Oak‘ design. Once the goat was done, I played around, adding the apple tree and the hills just for fun. I liked the little design so much, I used it as a decorative pocket on a shoulder bag.

The Apple Thief design is stitched in mostly natural tones with pops of bright red. The embroidery is worked onto ivory Italian linen using 11 mostly basic embroidery stitches to create texture and patterns within the design.

The embroidery design measures 15cm (6″) square and linen panel 30cm (12″) square. It will be super cute as a small pillow or framed piece for a child’s bedroom, and is great as a decorative pocket on a bag as I did.

The embroidery kit includes everything you need to complete the embroidery: Ivory linen with the design printed, ready to stitch; 11 shades of Appletons crewel yarn; needle and the detailed instructions with colour photographs and clear diagrams to guide you step-by-step through the project. However, basic embroidery stitches are not described in detail.

You will also need: 20cm (8”) sturdy embroidery hoop and Embroidery scissors
