Crewel Embroidery Kit ~ BLUE ELEGANCE

* LEVEL 1 – Introduction to Crewel work *   

The Crewel work kit: Blue Elegance is designed as an introduction to crewel work. It is a great project if you are comfortable with general embroidery stitches but are new to crewel work.

The inspiration for Blue Elegance is the fabulous foliage often seen in traditional Jacobean crewel work. I stitched the design in a modern colour scheme of fresh blues and greens with raspberry pink highlights onto ivory linen. Patterns and textures are created by using a variety of  mostly common stitches as well as laid trellis fillings which are distinct to crewel work. Blue Elegance was published under the title ‘Arcadian Elegance’ in A-Z of Crewel Embroidery by Country Bumpkin Publications (2004).

The embroidery design measures 16cm x 14cm wide (6 ½ x 5 ½”) and the linen panel 30cm (12″) square. The Crewel work kit: Blue Elegance makes a very pretty insert on a pillow and looks equally lovely framed.

The embroidery kit includes everything you need to complete the embroidery. The detailed instructions with colour photographs and clear diagrams to guide you step-by-step through the project. Please be aware that basic embroidery stitches are not described in detail.
