Flowers for Ellaine is suitable if you are comfortable with general embroidery, but no experience in crewel work is required.

Flowers for Ellaine is a matching set of needle book and scissor case. The pieces are designed to compliment a pincushion, titled ‘Fragments’ which was published in ‘The Design Collective – Pincushions’ by Inspirations Studio.

The title Flowers for Ellaine is a tribute to my dear friend, Ellaine. She will always wear something red and I would often think off her when I used the red yarn for this project.

I was inspired by the flowers and foliage in traditional crewel embroidery when I designed Flowers for Ellaine. To achieve a more modern feel, I used vibrant red and denim blues for the embroidery. The designs are embroidered with fine hand-dyed, shaded crewel yarns using mostly common and basic embroidery stitches. The embroidery designs are printed onto Italian linen fabric, ready for you to stitch.

The needle book measures 10cm x 11.5cm wide (4” x 4 1/2”). It is backed and lined with Liberty print cotton complimenting the embroidery. The needle book has wool felt pages to safely house your needles and 4 pockets to hold packets of needles.

The scissor case measures 14cm x 7.5cm wide (5 1/2” x 3 ”). It is designed to fit a pair of small embroidery scissors. The scissor case is backed and lined with Liberty print cotton complimenting the embroidery. It is finished with an embroidered edging.

This kit includes everything needed to complete the projects. The detailed instructions with clear photographs and diagrams to guide you step-by-step through the project. However, basic embroidery stitches are not described in detail.
