Joyous Dawn is an fabulous project if you are familiar with the basics of goldwork and are looking to further develop your skills. The design is stitched using mostly basic goldwork techniques however, the way they are used are a little tricky in places so it is an advantage if you have tried your hand at goldwork before.
I love and admire the sinuous lines in Art Nouveau designs which was my inspiration for Joyous Dawn. The pair of simple flower shapes are embroidered in laid work and chipping over layers of felt padding. The flowing stems curl around a centre bud, covered in gilt kid leather and a pair of laid work leaves complete the design.
Fine silks are used to add coloured shading within the gold and a variety of metal threads and wires are used to create texture and layers of reflection within the design. The detailed instructions and diagrams will help guide you step by step through the project.
I hope you will get as much pleasure embroidering your Joyous Dawn as I did.
Happy Stitching, Anna
