My design for May was inspired by an embroidery design by May Morris. May had created the design for a wealthy family living in Adelaide, South Australia. May Morris named the panel ‘Adelaide’ as a tribute to the family. So I have named my design, May as a tribute to this very talented embroiderer and designer.
The tulip, buds and leaves are embroidered mostly in silk shading (long & short stitch) and is surrounded by a heart-shaped wreath of satin stitch forget-me-nots. The embroidery is worked onto a pale blue linen-cotton blend fabric using 16 shades of fine stranded silks.
I placed my version of May onto the lid of a box. The small panel looks really pretty framed and would also make a lovely pillow, small bag or pouch for your embroidery or other small items.
I hope you will get as much pleasure embroidering your May as I did.
Happy Stitching, Anna
