Mountain Oak is an exciting project if you have some experience with crewel embroidery and are looking for a crewel work kit that offers a bit more of a challenge.
The Tree of Life is an iconic motif in crewel embroidery. I have wanted to design and stitch a Tree of Life of my own for a long time and invitation to teach at the Alpine Experience was the perfect opportunity to do so. My Mountain Oak is very much inspired by traditional crewel embroidery. The large tree and hillocks are embroidered in shades of fresh greens and blues and I replaced the traditional stag is with a cheeky mountain goat.
The embroidery is stitched onto ivory linen twill. It is worked in Appletons crewel wool, using 33 different embroidery stitches and 7 types of laid trellis to create textures and patterns within the design. The detailed instructions and diagrams will help guide you step by step through the project, but you might find it helpful to have a stitch directory at hand .
The shape and size of the fabric panel is perfect for a large pillow, which is what I did with mine. It would look equally stunning framed.
I hope you will get as much pleasure embroidering your Mountain Oak as I did.
Happy Stitching, Anna
