Sonnet is a good project if you are familiar with the basics of goldwork and are looking for something a little different and to further develop your skills.

It was a real joy for me to create this cheerful song bird sitting in a flowering tree. I wanted to design a goldwork pattern where the focus was on creating textures and elements using a selection of gilt wires and threads combined with beads and silk threads.

The song bird’s wing and delicate flowers are embroidered using a variety of purls in different sizes and textures, beads and spangles, combined with basic embroidery stitches using silk threads. The tree and body of the bird are embroidered with metal threads, couched in place in different patterns. The detailed instructions and diagrams will help guide you step by step through the project.

I hope you will get as much pleasure embroidering your Sonnet as I did.

Happy Stitching, Anna
