The Tulipa Bird is a fabulous project, if you are new to crewel work, but are familiar with common embroidery.
The design for Tulipa Bird was inspired by a picture of an antique Hungarian decorative plate or platter. The platter was decorated in earthy tones of terracotta, olive green and muted yellow, but I decided to stitch my version in bright and cheerful watermelon, orange, grass green and turquoise.
Tulipa Bird is stitched onto ivory linen with the embroidery design printed, ready for you to stitch. The patterns and textures within the design are created with a mix of common and slightly more advanced embroidery stitches and techniques unique to crewel work.
The size and rectangular shape of the design makes it perfect for a small pouch or purse, which is what I did with mine.
I hope you will get as much pleasure embroidering your Tulipa Bird as I did.
Happy Stitching, Anna
