Ready - Set - Go

I am about to start an adventure today. Almost three weeks in India and I am super excited. I have never been to India before and it is a place I have been wanting to go for some time.

Packing was (as usual) a last minute rush. The first priority was to make sure I had some stitching with me and I knew exactly what to bring on this trip. Nothing complicated - I will be stitching purely for pleasure if and when I feel like it.

I always pack my embroidery in two lots: One small bag for the flight and a Second with what I might need once I arrive. That is only because I can’t take proper scissors on the plane. See the teeny tiny pink scissors? They are my flying scissors. I wouldn’t want to cut anything too delicate with these but they do the job while I am in the air.

If you need a pair scissors for travel just search mini travel scissors and you should get a nice selection to choose from.

My better embroidery scissors and a folding rechargeable work light goes in my suitcase. And I am ready.

Leading up to the trip, I knew my travel embroidery would be the a little doodle piece using whatever the #coloricombo colour prompt for the first week of February would be - hoping it would be suitably inspirational for India. It couldn’t have been more perfect:

Tangerine | Lime green | Deep red | Orange

Yummy

It could not possibly be any more perfect!

I picked my colours but then later swapped the cards for skeins. I prefer not to use cotton that has been kinked by card. I also found the most brilliant little bobbin of vibrant lime green silk in my stash and added a ‘bland, beige thinking it might come in handy.

Like last month, I drew my design straight onto the fabric. This time I am using a natural linen/cotton blend. It has a nice, close weave and is a great fabric to stitch on.

It is a little more prepared this time. Well the size is. The design is drawn in a 8cm square to match other small doodle pieces I have done on trips in the past. It might change ever so slightly as I stitch but this is the starting point.

Feel free to download the line drawing if you want to have a go at embroidering it yourself. It would be really fun to see how others interpret it.

- Paul Klee

On a side note…

It was my intention to publish this post before I left but I didn’t quite make it. I have not done this using only my phone before so unfortunately I haven’t been able to add links and downloads as I intended. One day I will learn to use this better.
