The Superb Lyrebird is a great project if you are familiar with raised embroidery techniques and are looking for a project with lots of fine details.
The idea for this project came from a real-life Lyrebird in the Adelaide Zoo named chook. Lyrebirds are fabulous at mimicing sounds and while the averies were undergoing restoration, Chook learned to make the sounds of chain saws, drillas and other power tools. You never quite knew if you were entering a building site or if a Lyrebird was hiding somewhere in the bushes.
The detailed, fully illustrated instructions will help guide you step by step through the project, however, you might find it helpful to have your stitch directory at hand - I always do.
YOU WILL ALSO NEED:
20cm (8”) hoop, inner ring bound
10cm (4”) hoop, inner ring bound
Light coloured sewing thread
Beeswax
Embroidery scissors
Small pliers or old scissors for cutting wire
Baking (or tracing) paper
Sticky tape
Sharp lead pencil or mechanical pencil
Stylus (or empty ball point pen)
