Swan Lake is embroidered using a small range of intricate embroidery stitches and raised embroidery techniques. Experience in raised embroidery is not essential, but I recommend you are confident with fine work and general embroidery stitches.
It is common to see swan ornaments decorating Christmas trees in Denmark and Sweeden. I remember having the most beautiful paper swans, made by my dad on our tree when I was a child.
The swan is embroidered mostly in silk threads with accents of very fine silver metallic thread. The swan is highly padded and has a detached wing to achieve a 3D effect. The stylized water swirls are stitched with laid metal thread and beads are used to form water droplets.
